Farraige Mhór Academy ("Farraige Mhór" meaning "Ocean" in Gaelic) was formed in 2007 from the Cladach Irish Dancers and Bradan Irish Dancers schools. We are committed to providing a fun, non-competitive Irish Dance education for the Northwest.
We participate annually in the Irish Dance Festival, the Seattle Irish Week Festival, and the Seattle International Folklife Festival. We also perform regularly for retirement centers, parades, private events and company parties. We have also been seen at the Whidbey Island Highland Games and the Phinney Ridge Winter Festival.
While our Company focuses on performance, each of our classes is included in our performances, especially during the St Patrick's Day Season.
We are known for our close-knit "family" atmosphere within our dance company.
We chose "Farraige Mhór" because our previous school names Cladach (Gaelic for Seashore) and Bradan (Gaelic for Salmon) both had ties to the ocean. We also appreciate the oceanic themes in dance as it pertains to the movement of the dancers, the fluttering of the costumes, and the ebb and flow of the music. |
